Since the invention of the grand piano in the early 18th century, the world’s most amazing musicians and composers have used the instrument to express their musical visions. In a previous post, we wrote about some of the most famous pianists in history, but there are many more great classical pianists to discuss. Here are a few of the most important:
- Wolfgang Mozart
At a very early age, Wolfgang Mozart gained mastery of the keyboard and showcased his talent for kings and queens all across Europe. In the 18th century, Mozart wrote a total of 27 concertos for the piano—bolstering the popularity of this relatively new instrument and ensuring that it was heard by millions of people in his time alone. - Frédéric Chopin
In the 19th century, the piano—and the music that issued from it—underwent some drastic changes. Sometimes called “the poet of the piano,” Polish piano virtuoso Frédéric Chopin gave us both magnificently intricate and subtly moving compositions that continue to stir emotions in audiences today. - Robert Schuman
A contemporary of Chopin, German pianist and composer Robert Schuman also championed the popular Romantic style of classical music. The emotional range of Schuman’s piano compositions helped carry the mantle of Romanticism to great heights, where it was picked up again by scores of talented young pianists. - Johannes Brahms
One such young pianist was another talented German by the name of Johannes Brahms. Brahms brought yet another twist to Romanticism, combining the traditional wild emotions with new, innovative song structures. His talent as a pianist and composer reverberated throughout the 20th century and is even felt in modern compositions.
Thought the pianists listed above were masters, under no circumstances did they unlock all the secrets of the piano. The piano has infinite possibilities, each waiting to be discovered by a talented generations of pianists. If you’re looking for a wonderful new or used piano on which to play, call Metro Piano North today at (214) 872-1013.

Though pianos are large and bulky, you’d be surprised to learn how fragile they are. You may have the “perfect spot” in mind for your piano, but you should keep in mind that your piano’s long life and perfect sound depends on just the right placement. Here are a few important tips for the best possible home piano placement.
- Protection from the elements
Though the piano can produce powerful sounds, it’s relatively weak against sunlight, heat, cold, and moisture. To prevent your piano from getting bleached by the sun, it’s important that you place it away from windows. Moisture and air can warp your piano, which is why you should keep it away from heating vents and air conditioners.
- Aesthetics
Unlike smaller instruments, the piano cannot be simply stowed away. Once you buy a piano, it becomes another piece of furniture that adds to the interior beauty of your home. When selecting a place for your piano, you should consider where it will look the best—to help make this process easier, it helps to select a place for the piano before you buy one, so you can be sure that it matches your décor.
- Acoustics
Of course, a piano is nothing if it cannot sing—that why it’s important that you put your piano in a place where it will sound the best. Ask your piano experts about the acoustic needs of your particular piano, and understand the acoustics of your home before you buy.
